Thai Cooking Classes were one of the last activities we have done before leaving Chiang Mai and one of the most enjoyable. We cannot recommend it enough!
Which school did we choose?
We chose Zabb-E-Lee cooking school owned by Ann. School is very new but Ann already managed to climb to the 4th place of Trip Advisor most recommended activities in Chiang Mai! Ann speaks great English and is super enthusiastic about both cooking and teaching. She also has a great sense of humor which makes your day extra fun.
Shopping for fresh ingredients
Day started from shopping at the local market for fresh products. Ann took time to explain us lots about all vegetables and spices commonly used in Thai cuisine. She explained how to select the best items and for which dishes they are used. Ann also introduced us to different types of rice and explained how to properly cook the rice (all depends on the type!).
Cooking was so much fun! Each of us could choose what dishes to cook (from the list provided). I went for Deep Fried Spring Rolls, Cashew Nut with Chicken, Coconut soup and Green Curry. Roberto went for Fresh Spring Rolls, Pad Thai and Massamun Curry.
The first part is chopping and preparing ingredients and making curry paste from scratch .
Once you have ingredients ready, the cooking begins!
and once cooked it tastes delicious and you are super proud of yourself!
The great thing is that you will now understand what each dish is made of and you will be able to re-create all the dishes at home and it’ss totally up to you how mild or spicy your dish will be. At the end of the day you will receive from Ann her cookbook which beautifully explains and illustrates how to make 22 dishes! Cooking classes with Anna re very highly recommended!
