Babylonian Iraqi Restaurant is located in the Night Bazaar area. We discovered this place accidentally couple of weeks ago and since then it become one of our favorite places to eat in Chiang Mai.
First thing that impressed us was the huge space and cool decoration. There are two types of tables – regular tables + chairs and comfy cushioned mattress seating. Place is great for couples with children because of all that free space. It is also good if you would like to work for few hours as it offers very good WiFi (6.75 Mb/s) and it never get too crowded (based on our 2 lunch visits there).
Restaurant offers a really good selection of food (Arabic, Indian and some Thai). You can choose a dish from the menu or select one of six suggested sets.

Choosing the food was not easy as there were too many dishes which appeared to us. Finally we decided on:
- Hummus (100THB = 2.21EUR) – we opted for regular hummus but you can also choose Hummus Lebanese which is with added garlic and coriander
- Arabic Bread (35THB = 0.77EUR)
- Stuffed Grape Leaves (150THB = 3.32EUR)
- Sandwitch Falafel (80THB = 1.77EUR) – we have ordered two
Roberto ordered ice green tea (60THB = 1.33EUR) and I had drinking yoghurt (70THB = 1.55EUR)
Food was absolutely amazing with rich taste, full of flavour and fresh. Dishes were very well-presented. When I asked Roberto which dish he liked the best he had problem to choose it. After long debate we decided that we loved hummus and falafel and those two items we ordered again, on our second visit to Babylonian. In relation to drinks green tea was too sweet (a very common issue in Thailand) but yoghurt drink was just perfect match for the food.
We would like to try following dishes from the menu:
- Chicken tandoori – 200THB (4.43EUR)
- Kebab Iraqi style – 250THB (5.54 EUR)
- Araus (bread stuffed with meat) – 200THB (4.43EUR)
- Thered (bread with bean fried oil) – 200THB (4.43EUR)
- Coconut dessert with cinnamon – 70THB (1.55EUR)
On both visits we had a short chat with the owner of the restaurant. He always asks for feedback. Both himself and employees are very nice and made us feel very welcomed. During our first time in the restaurant we also received complimentary vegetable soup with crispy bread slices (delicious!) and dessert – slices of fresh watermelon and pineapple.
We recommend Babylonian Iraqi Restaurant for anyone who loves Arabic food and also for those who never tried it as you will not be disappointed. The only complaint is that some of the dishes are pricey comparing to other places in Chiang Mai but still good value comparing to European prices.
